The Adaptive Learning Center (ALC)

is committed to maintaining a community environment with comprehensive services for adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders. The ALC program provides each participant with a residence in an apartment complex and a tailored program for growth and achievement. The wellbeing and dignity of each adult client is our primary concern.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Adaptive Learning Center is to provide a safe and healthy community for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and neurodevelopmental disabilities to realize their individual potential for self-reliant living as defined by the ability to engage in productive work, to socialize successfully, to attend to their own physical and emotional health, and to experience on-going personal growth.

A Client Rights training has been scheduled for family members and ALC staff.  Stephen Dale, Esq., LL.M. is a disability rights advocate and attorney dedicated to providing quality estate planning. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of disability related topics across the country.  Mr. Dale regularly teaches courses to the public, financial professionals, and other attorneys on Special Needs Trusts and Trust administration. He was a board member of the State of California Developmental Disabilities Area Board 5.

 

Topics to be covered:

¨ What does Client Rights mean?  - Legislation, list of rights

¨ Staff roles in respecting Client Rights -what information can be shared if client is not conserved

¨ Implications for family interactions with staff when client is not fully conserved

¨ Cover medication requirements (staff can’t change medications without physician approval) as one of key points. Also diet and exercise

¨ What are the family members’  “rights” in communicating with ALC and Regional Center

¨ Conservatorship options
